Your knowledge of birds and localities was amazing to the point of being supernatural (like an ornithological version of Derren Brown with your ability to predict what birds we would be seeing and when). And you were excellent at patiently explaining how to distinguish between similar species.

It's not easy to say what the high point was when there were so many to choose from... the Wallcreeper, the Lammergeier, the Dupont's Lark in the early morning Steppe light, the flocks of sandgrouse or sixty-three truly astonishing Great Bustard.
